Evidence for genetic correlation between appendix and inflammatory bowel disease: A bidirectional Mendelian

Ulcerative colitis (UC) genetically reduces the risk of appendicitis and appendectomy. However, appendicitis or appendectomy do not causally impact inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn's disease (CD), or UC risk.
