The development of clinical pharmacy in pharmacy education has become a key focus globally. The role of international collaboration in the evolution of clinical pharmacy has become increasingly valuable. To date, research is limited on educational programmes between countries that focus on integrating interculturality, clinical pharmacy practice, communication skills, and pharmaceutical care.

This case report aims to describe a novel blended intensive programme in clinical pharmacy education and to analyse student perceptions.

Three European higher education institutions (Trinity College Dublin, Université Paris-Saclay, and Università di Pavia) collaborated to create a three-year rotating blended intensive programme which included a two-week virtual component, with didactic lectures on a variety of clinical pharmacy topics, followed by a one-week in-person component, where students met at one of the universities to engage in active learning and intercultural activities. In 2025, students evaluated the programme through a survey to gain their perceptions on the experience.

Twenty-one students completed the survey. All students reported satisfaction with the programme in general. Based on thematic analysis of free-text responses, students reported learning more about international pharmacy practice, enjoying clinical practice activities, and suggested increased amounts of clinical practice activities in the future of the programme.

The blended intensive programme was the first of its kind. Students reported high levels of satisfaction with the incorporation of intercultural activities and shared that this type of learning experience helped them to develop their self-perceived communication skills, teamwork, and intercultural awareness, important lessons for future similar programmes.
