Abstract:
Two-dimensional (2D) noble metal nanomaterials exhibit considerable promise as artificial enzymes due to their adjustable electronic configurations and intrinsic multi-enzymatic activities. However, conventional synthesis typically yielded thermodynamically favored, highly crystalline structures, resulting in suboptimal atomic utilization and limited nanozyme activity. Herein, we proposed an innovative kinetic regulation strategy based on CO-mediated growth dynamics, enabling continuous and precise modulation of grain boundary (GB) density in palladium nanosheets (Pd NSs). Systematic investigations revealed that the correlation between GB density and catalytic efficiency was strongly substrate-dependent, offering critical insights for the rational design of application-specific nanozymes. Notably, Pd NSs with elevated GB densities demonstrated exceptional peroxidase-mimetic activity, achieving a remarkable 9.42-fold enhancement compared to highly crystalline Pd NSs. Capitalizing on this breakthrough, we developed an integrated microfluidic point-of-care testing (POCT) platform that enabled rapid and highly sensitive quantification of hydrogen peroxide in food matrices. Our work offers a novel strategy in the realm of designing 2D noble metal nanozymes with tunable defects for the biochemical detection field.
