Heterotopic pregnancy (HP), occurring when an intrauterine and ectopic pregnancy coexist, is rare but dangerous. Clomiphene citrate (CC) use increases HP risk, necessitating careful diagnosis even with a visible intrauterine pregnancy.
Area of Science:
- Reproductive Endocrinology
- Obstetrics & Gynecology
- Clinical Case Study
Background:
- Heterotopic pregnancy (HP), the simultaneous occurrence of intrauterine and ectopic pregnancies, is a rare but potentially life-threatening condition.
- The incidence of HP is significantly increased in patients undergoing assisted reproductive technologies, particularly ovulation induction with clomiphene citrate (CC).
- Diagnosis can be challenging as the presence of an intrauterine pregnancy may lead to overlooking an ectopic gestation.
