  • Utilized DIDS data from two U.S. adult samples: a general disability sample (N=409) and a transgender and gender-nonbinary (TGNB) disability sample (N=289).
  • Conducted exploratory factor analysis on half of the general sample to identify items and subscales.
  • Performed confirmatory factor analyses on the remaining general sample and the TGNB sample to confirm model fit.

Main Results:

  • The DIDS-Short Form retained 17 items across three subscales: Disability Identification, Contributions to the Disability Community, and Values and Advocacy.

  • Its brevity and clarity facilitate its use with diverse disabled populations, including TGNB individuals.
  • The DIDS-Short Form effectively measures key dimensions of disability identity.
