Biomimetic hydrogel dressings: An integrated "perception-response-repair" strategy for chronic diabetic wounds

With the dramatic increase in the global incidence of diabetes, the incidence of its complications such as chronic wounds and ulcers has also increased significantly. How to more effectively treat diabetic wounds has always been a huge challenge for clinicians and even global health systems. Diabetic wound coverage and rapid healing require multifunctional skin-mimicking wound dressings, including sufficient mechanical strength, antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and tissue adhesion properties. This minireview discusses in detail the current and emerging preparation ideas of hydrogel dressings, analyzes and discusses from four aspects: glucose responsiveness, antibacterial properties, antioxidant properties, and anti-inflammatory properties, and explores the advantages and challenges of natural polymers, synthetic polymers, and nanomaterials in wound dressings. This article aims to promote the further development of biomedicine by comprehensively analyzing the application potential of hydrogel dressings in diabetes treatment.
