Introduction:
The present study aimed to assess family satisfaction with forensic autopsies. Currently, there is a scarcity of surveys on this topic.
Materials And Methods:
An anonymous self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted with families whose relatives underwent autopsy at our facility.
Results:
The response rate was 87%, and 78% of the respondents were satisfied with the process. Statistically significant differences were found between the satisfied and dissatisfied groups regarding "initial willingness for autopsy," "atmosphere of waiting room," "understanding of autopsy results," and "acceptance of cause of death."
Discussion:
Direct medical explanations by forensic pathologists can enhance bereaved families' understanding. Additionally, providing a private and supportive environment is also essential. Such efforts can contribute to grief care and be further improved through multi-disciplinary collaboration.
Conclusion:
These findings highlight the need for direct explanations and supportive environments to guide future forensic practice.
