Level of research and scientific interest in immediate dentin sealing: A global bibliometric network analysis

Statement Of Problem:
Understanding the scientific state of immediate dentin sealing (IDS) impacts the development of research on this topic.
Purpose:
The aim of the present study was to investigate the scientific level and research interest in IDS through a global bibliometric analysis.
Material And Methods:
A comprehensive search was conducted in November 2024 in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoS-CC) by 2 independent researchers. Data related to publication profiles were extracted from the selected articles. Collaboration networks were generated using VOSviewer. The Spearman correlation was applied to analyze citation data.
Results:
A total of 103 studies published between 1992 and 2024 were included. The most cited article had 185 citations, and 42.57% of the publications were open access. Most studies were laboratory-based (n=71), primarily investigating the use of IDS in relation to restorative retention (n=90). OptiBond FL (Kerr Corp) was the most frequently used adhesive system (n=41). The United States was the most prevalent country in terms of publication count (n=19), while Europe was the most represented continent (n=36). VOSviewer revealed strong collaboration among authors, with Magne P being the most prominent contributor (n=20). The most frequent keyword was "immediate dentin sealing" (37 occurrences). The scientific level analysis indicated a lack of randomized clinical trials. The Spearman correlation revealed a weak association between citation count and publication year.
Conclusions:
A growing scientific interest in IDS has been observed over the past 2 decades. There is a need to prioritize the development of randomized clinical trials on this topic. The majority of the existing studies were laboratory-based and focused on restorative retention. Magne P was identified as the most frequent author.
