Counter-diabatic driving in a bent mode-evolution coupler
Abstract:
We present an implementation of counter-diabatic (CD) driving in mode-evolution couplers through axis bending, enabling compact and robust photonic devices. Using coupled-mode theory, we derive an analytical framework that reveals how geometric deformation introduces an effective Hamiltonian term, allowing the CD protocol to be realized in a physically feasible bent waveguide system. Beam propagation method (BPM) simulations confirm complete light transfer and minimal nonadiabatic transitions in a 500 μm bent coupler, validating the theoretical predictions. Beyond reducing length, the approach offers deterministic design rules and paves the way for shortcuts to adiabaticity photonic components that maintain robustness to structural perturbations.
