To understand the experiences of nursing professionals with Advanced Practice competencies involved in triage management in Primary Care Emergency Services.

A qualitative, interpretive study, guided by a constructivist paradigm. SITE: 3 Primary Care Emergency Services in Granada Basic Health Area.

17 nursing professionals working in triage.

Participants were selected using purposive sampling. Semi-structured audio-recorded interviews were conducted between January and April of 2023. Reflective thematic analysis and researcher triangulation were used.

Four main themes and 15 sub-themes emerged, addressing the research questions: 1) Trained nurses effectively manage patient triage in Primary Care emergency services; 2) Conflict between "urgency" (concept) and "Primary Care" (context); 3) Responsibility, autonomy, empowerment, and public service; and 4) Maintaining achievements, guiding, and sustaining urgent care in Primary Care.

The results contributed to increase knowledge and evidence of the positive impact of nursing professionals with Advanced Practice competencies on triage in Primary Care Emergency Services, that provide a patient-centered perspective, effective and efficient resolution of low-complexity acute health problems, and highlight the importance of their role in managing the demand for urgent or non-deferrable needs.
