A Systematic Review on Exploration of Extracts and Phytochemicals for Peptic Ulcer from 2018 to 2024

Introduction:
Worldwide, peptic ulcer disease affects a large number of individuals. In order to treat this condition, new, safe, and efficient treatments must be created because of the growing resistance to many traditional drugs. Several synthetic medications are available to treat ulcers. However, compared to natural products, newer medications are much more costly and are likely to have more adverse effects.
Method:
The literature was collected from various search engines, including PubMed, Scopus, SAGE, Nature Publishing Group, ScienceDirect, Wiley Online Library, BioMed Central, Springer, and PubChem.
Results:
According to the literature, many Ayurveda physicians and traditional healers treat ulcers with a variety of medicinal plants and polyherbal combinations. Plants like Curcuma longa, Citrus sinensis, Moringa oleifera, Commiphora myrrh, Bryophyllum pinnatum, A. adstringens, L. porter, Mucuna pruriens, Elaeagnus conferta, Phyllanthus reticulates, Ficus thonningii, Casearia sylvestris, Biebersteinia multifida, and phytochemicals such as echinochrome, 6-gingerol, lectins, crocin, diligustilide, chrysin, vonoprazan, estragole, vitexin, russelioside b, 6-aminoflavone, hirsutidin, limonene, and orientin, and many are reported.
Discussion:
By preserving mucosa, reducing ulcer effects, blocking inflammatory mediators, and lowering bacterial burden, herbal remedies rich in active metabolites have been shown to improve the quality of life for patients with ulcer-related conditions. The research has been carried out for many years.
Conclusion:
Decoctions or infusions of extracts derived from leaves, vegetables, branches, and flowers have been employed in numerous research studies over the past several decades to examine their various biological functions. The present investigation aims to identify the anti-ulcer properties of botanical medicines in the treatment of ulcers and peptic ulcer disease, as reported in publications between 2018 and 2024.
