Reconstruction of Lower Lip Defects After Tumor Resection Using Mandibular Tongue-Shaped Flap Combined With Mucosal

Objective:
This study aims to explore the clinical efficacy of repairing postoperative lower lip defects following tumor removal using a combination of a mandibular tongue-shaped flap and a mucosal advancement flap.
Methods:
The study involved 8 patients who declined traditional surgical repair for lower lip defects, as well as one patient who was unsuitable for general anesthesia due to poor overall health. Lower lip defects were repaired utilizing a mandibular tongue-shaped flap in conjunction with a mucosal advancement flap, and clinical outcomes were meticulously observed.
Results:
During a follow-up period of 6 to 8 months postoperatively, all patients exhibited satisfactory wound healing, with no indications of infection, pain, tumor recurrence, or flap failure. The aesthetic restoration of the lower lip was deemed satisfactory, and normal function was preserved.
Conclusion:
This study concludes that the technique of repairing postoperative lower lip defects after tumor removal with a mandibular tongue-shaped flap combined with a mucosal advancement flap is both effective and feasible, yielding satisfactory clinical outcomes.
