Purpose of the Study:

  • Evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of remote mindfulness and coping interventions.
  • Inform future efficacy trials on stress-related health outcomes for adults with childhood trauma.

Main Methods:

  • 81 adults (18-29) with childhood trauma were randomized to 2-week remote mindfulness or coping interventions.
  • Feasibility, acceptability, and psychosocial outcomes were assessed preintervention, postintervention, and at follow-up.
  • Lab-based and ambulatory assessments, including blood samples, were utilized.

Main Results:

  • High enrollment (88% completion) and intervention engagement (95% lessons completed).
  • Interventions were feasible, acceptable, and safely implemented, with no serious adverse events.
  • Participants showed improvements in global mental health and mindfulness, regardless of group.

Conclusions:

  • Remote mindfulness and control interventions are feasible and acceptable for adults with childhood trauma.
  • While promising, further research is needed to confirm MBIs' efficacy in offsetting health risks.
  • Challenging emotional experiences occurred in 53% of participants, highlighting the need for careful monitoring.
