Insights
This article uses case studies to improve neonatal orthopedic care. It details common newborn orthopedic issues, diagnosis, and nursing interventions to enhance stability and function.
Area of Science:
- Neonatal Medicine
- Orthopedic Surgery
Background:
- Neonatal orthopedic conditions require specialized knowledge for optimal outcomes.
- Existing literature provides foundational knowledge, necessitating practical application guidance.
Purpose of the Study:
- To advance neonatal orthopedic knowledge through practice-focused case studies.
- To demonstrate the impact of nursing care on neonatal orthopedic outcomes.
Main Methods:
- Case study approach detailing presentation, diagnostic reasoning (labs and imaging), and nursing interventions.
- Focus on common neonatal orthopedic issues and clinical application.
Main Results:
- Exemplars translate evidence into repeatable workflows.
- Demonstrates how bedside care influences orthopedic stability, comfort, and function.
Conclusions:
- Improved orthopedic stability, comfort, and function in newborns through evidence-based workflows.
- Enhances clinical application of neonatal orthopedic care principles.
Abstract:
This column advances neonatal orthopedic knowledge from an overview of common issues to clinical application by using concise, practice-focused case studies that align with newborn orthopedic care. This article is an extension of the published article, "The Ins and Outs of Neonatal Orthopedic Disorders: Back to Basics," in Neonatal Network Each scenario includes presentation, diagnostic reasoning (targeted labs and imaging), nursing care, and outcomes to demonstrate how bedside care influences outcomes. These exemplars translate evidence into repeatable workflows allowing for improved orthopedic stability, comfort, and function in the newborn period and beyond.
