Summary

Fixing a unilateral L5 pedicle fracture with a partially threaded screw is a safe and effective minimally invasive treatment. This surgical option offers excellent outcomes for patients with spinal trauma, allowing a return to normal activities.

Background:

Spinal fractures, particularly at the L5 level, can result from significant trauma.
Management of unilateral pedicle fractures requires careful consideration for optimal patient outcomes.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of using a partially threaded screw for unilateral L5 pedicle fracture fixation.
To assess the functional recovery and pain levels in patients treated with this minimally invasive technique.

Main Methods:

A case study of a previously healthy 46-year-old male with polytraumatic injuries including a unilateral right L5 pedicle fracture.
Surgical fixation of the L5 pedicle fracture using a 6.5 mm partially threaded screw.
Postoperative follow-up at 12 months to assess pain, work status, and activity resumption.

Main Results:

The patient tolerated the surgical procedure well.
At 12 months postoperatively, the patient reported no back pain.
The patient successfully returned to work and resumed all previous activities.

Conclusions:

Fixation of a unilateral pedicle fracture with a partially threaded screw is a safe and effective treatment.
This minimally invasive approach is a viable option for indicated cases of L5 pedicle fractures.
Early and complete functional recovery is achievable with this surgical method.
