Purpose of the Study:

  • To objectively examine physical activity (PA) and sedentary behaviour (SB) among informal carers.
  • To compare PA and SB levels between informal carers and non-carers.
  • To assess the impact of caring hours on PA and SB, and identify predictors of guideline adherence.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized accelerometer data from the 'Age 46' Survey of the 1970 British Cohort Study (BCS70).
  • Employed Analyses of Covariance and Logistic Regressions for statistical comparisons.
  • Adjusted for relevant covariates to ensure robust findings.

Main Results:

  • No significant differences in objectively measured PA or SB were found between carers and non-carers.
  • Caring hours did not significantly influence PA or SB levels.
  • Extremely low adherence to UK Chief Medical Officers' PA guidelines was observed among carers (e.g., 1% met combined recommendations).
