Testes: Histology

3.3K
A tough, fibrous membrane, the tunica albuginea, covers the testes, extending inward to form fibrous partitions or septa, dividing them into internal compartments called lobules. Each lobule has 1 to 3 tightly coiled seminiferous tubules where sperm production occurs. These tubules merge into a tubular network at the back of the testis, known as the rete testis. It connects to 15 to 20 efferent ductules, leading to the epididymis.
The spermatogenic cells, responsible for producing sperm, are...

Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Medical Diagnostics

Background:

  • Segmental testicular infarction (STI) is a rare urologic condition with complex symptoms, often misdiagnosed.
  • Its low incidence and varied presentation pose diagnostic challenges.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To report a case of unilateral segmental testicular infarction.
  • To highlight the importance of early diagnosis and treatment for preserving testicular function.

Main Methods:

  • A patient presented with acute scrotal pain.
  • Diagnosis of STI was confirmed.
  • Treatment involved low-molecular-weight heparin and anti-inflammatory medication.

Main Results:

  • The patient's pain resolved within 4 days of treatment.
  • Complete symptom resolution occurred within 2 weeks.
  • Color Doppler ultrasound confirmed the testicle returned to normal.

Conclusions:

  • Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are vital for favorable outcomes in STI.
  • Color Doppler ultrasound is effective for assessing testicular blood flow.
  • Individualized treatment strategies are essential to maintain testicular function.
