Weight loss in metastatic non-squamous cell lung cancer (mNSCLC) patients varied by age and pre-treatment BMI. Older patients and those with higher BMI experienced more weight loss during first-line treatment.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate weight changes in patients receiving first-line treatment for mNSCLC.
  • To explore the influence of treatment type, age, sex, pre-treatment weight loss, and excess weight on weight variations.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 198 patients undergoing first-line treatment for mNSCLC.
  • Weight measurements recorded at four time points: pre-treatment, day 1 of treatment, 3 months, and at progression.
  • Analysis included chemotherapy (CT), immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), or combination therapy.

  • Older patients are more vulnerable to nutritional decline, necessitating closer monitoring.
  • Pre-treatment weight loss in mNSCLC patients may indicate a need for nutritional support but does not contraindicate therapy.
  • Higher baseline BMI is associated with increased weight loss during treatment.
