An Interesting Case of Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia in a Patient with Recurrent Epistaxis

Abstract:
Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia is a disorder of blood vessels characterized by angiogenesis and chronic dilatation. Hereby presenting a case of an elderly female presenting with recurrent epistaxis with spontaneous resolution, multiple episodes of per rectal bleed since the past 10 years, leading to chronic anaemia and required blood transfusions. Further evaluation revealed the presence of multiple nasal, gastric, and colonic telangiectasias without active bleeding and complex pulmonary arteriovenous malformations. The patient was transfused with five pints of packed cell volume, cauterization done in view of nasal telangiectasia, and started on oral form of thalidomide 50 mg once daily to prevent angiogenesis, further progression, and complications.
