Background:

Emergency departments (EDs) are high-activity environments requiring practitioners to use evidence-based practices (EBP).
Emergency nurses, like other healthcare professionals, are expected to integrate current research into their clinical work.
Understanding nurses' perspectives on EBP is crucial for its successful implementation.

Purpose of the Study:

To explore emergency nurses' views on evidence-based practices (EBP).
To identify factors that support and hinder the use of EBP by emergency nurses.
To inform strategies for enhancing EBP adoption in emergency nursing.

Main Methods:

Qualitative descriptive phenomenological approach.
Focus group discussions with 20 emergency nurses.
Thematic analysis using Braun and Clarke's six-stage method; COREQ checklist followed.

Main Results:

Three core themes emerged: the role of science in practice, barriers to EBP, and expectations for EBP development.
Identified barriers include challenges in translating research to clinical settings.
Nurses expressed needs for improved support and resources to facilitate EBP.

Conclusions:

Numerous factors impede emergency nurses' utilization of evidence-based practices.
Recommendations include bridging the gap between academia and clinical practice, providing in-service training, and reducing workload.
Leadership support and recognition of nurses engaged in research are vital for promoting EBP.
