Vaginal leiomyomas are rare benign tumors. This report details two cases, highlighting transvaginal excision as the preferred surgical treatment for vaginal masses.
Area of Science:
- Gynecologic Pathology
- Surgical Oncology
Background:
- Uterine leiomyomas are common, but vaginal leiomyomas are rare.
- Diagnosis and surgical management of vaginal leiomyomas can be challenging due to variable locations.
Purpose of the Study:
- To report two cases of vaginal leiomyomas.
- To emphasize the importance of considering vaginal leiomyoma in the differential diagnosis of vaginal masses.
- To highlight transvaginal excision as an effective treatment.
Main Methods:
- Case presentation of two patients with vaginal leiomyomas.
- Clinical examination and ultrasound for diagnosis.
- Surgical excision (transvaginal) and histopathological analysis for confirmation.
Main Results:
- Two cases of vaginal leiomyomas were successfully diagnosed and treated.
- Histopathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis in both cases.
- Transvaginal excision was performed for both vaginal masses.
Conclusions:
- Vaginal leiomyoma should be considered in the diagnosis of any vaginal mass.
- Transvaginal excision is the recommended surgical approach for vaginal leiomyomas.
