Objective:
This scoping review will map and synthesize the existing evidence on stress relief spaces designed for health care professionals within health care facilities, with a focus on design features, integrated therapies, and descriptive or evaluative outcomes.
Introduction:
Health care professionals work in highly stressful environments, and burnout among this population has become a national crisis. To address this issue, interest has increased in providing designated spaces to better support health care professionals' well-being.
Eligibility Criteria:
This scoping review will consider studies on health care professionals (eg, nurses, physicians, allied/public health staff) working in any health care facility. Studies that explore physical spaces created or adapted for stress relief, focusing on design elements, therapies delivered within or embedded into the spaces, or any descriptive or evaluative outcomes will be included. The context will include health care settings such as hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and private practices.
Methods:
This review will follow the JBI methodology for scoping reviews. MEDLINE (Ovid), Web of Science Core Collection, CINAHL Complete (EBSCOhost), Academic Search Premier (EBSCOhost), and ERIC (EBSCOhost) will be searched for published studies. MedNar, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Sciences and Engineering Collection (ProQuest), and LILACS will be searched for unpublished studies and gray literature. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) will be followed for reporting. Only studies published in English will be included. No date restrictions will be applied. At least 2 independent reviewers will screen studies and extract data using an extraction tool developed by the reviewers. The data will be synthesized visually and narratively.
