Impact of surgical technique on functional outcomes in C-type crooked nose correction

Objective:
In this study, we aimed to compare the results of patients who underwent surgery with the classical technique(CT) and the septal shift technique (SST) for crooked noses with C-shaped and reverse C-shaped deformities.
Methods:
Data from a total of 37 patients who underwent septorhinoplasty for crooked nose deformity in the last 4 years were collected. 26 patients were assigned to the classic technique group, and 11 patients to the septal shift technique group. Preoperative and 1-year postoperative photographs were taken. Nasal axis angles were measured using a computer program, and VAS were calculated.
Results:
A total of 37 patients were divided into two groups: 26 underwent the CT, and 11 underwent the SST. Postoperative angular improvement was significant in both groups (p < 0.05), with no difference between them (p > 0.05). The decrease in VAS was more pronounced in the septal shift group (p < 0.05).
Conclusion:
Both the CT and SST effectively correct C-type and reverse C-type crooked nose deformities. While both methods achieved similar angular improvements, the SST provided superior functional outcomes, as evidenced by a greater reduction in VAS. The SST may offer advantages in functional recovery, but both approaches are viable options in crooked nose surgery.
