Documentation of Nursing Diagnosis

Background:

Digital pathology offers improved access to diagnostic services.
Validation is crucial before routine implementation of digital pathology.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate and share experiences from the digital pathology validation process.
To assess the reliability and discrepancies of digital pathology compared to traditional methods.

Main Methods:

Digitization of 6128 histopathological slides from 846 patients using two scanners.
Assessment of digital slides by fifteen pathologists, followed by light microscopy review.
Collection of data on diagnostic outcomes, discrepancies, and reasons for discordance.

Main Results:

Minor diagnostic discrepancies occurred in 5.7% of cases; 98% had no major discrepancies affecting treatment.
Rescanning was needed for 3% of slides, and light microscopy reevaluation for 7%.
Discordances most frequently involved microorganism detection and mitotic figure assessment.

Conclusions:

Microscopic diagnoses were not superior to diagnoses made using whole slide imaging.
Digital pathology demonstrates high concordance with traditional methods, supporting its routine use after validation.
