Sustainability consciousness and non-government organisational performance in Bangladesh

Bangladesh's Gen-Z battle with the government to improve youth employment prospects and eliminate corruption are two cornerstone issues sustainable development addresses. Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) firms play a crucial role in contributing to sustainable development by addressing these issues. This study examined NGO managers' perceived awareness of the role of sustainability capital in their organisational performance. It administered a 5-point Likert-scale questionnaire that inquired into managers' perceptions of intellectual capital (knowledge), social capital (structural, relational, and cognitive dimensions), and environmental capital in driving sustainability capital, and sustainability capital driving organisational performance. Structural equation modelling analysed data from 113 respondent NGO firms. Social capital, environmental capital, and intellectual capital positively influenced sustainability capital. Sustainability capital positively influenced NGO performance. The political economy, institutional, and incomplete contracts theories informed the results. The findings have implications for NGO managers becoming sustainability-conscious within organisational, funder, and governmental deliberations.
