Breast implant technology has undergone transformative evolution since the 1960s, with major advancements in design, materials, and safety. Early silicone and saline implants were plagued by firmness, rupture, and gel leakage issues. Subsequent generations introduced multilayer shells, cohesive gels, and surface texturing, significantly improving biocompatibility and durability. Food and Drug Administration oversight led to stricter quality standards and enhanced product safety. Modern implants, produced primarily by Allergan, Mentor, Sientra, and Motiva, are available in diverse shapes, sizes, and fill materials. Saline implants remain a safe and customizable option, with long-term studies confirming high patient satisfaction and favorable safety outcomes.
