Natural killer (NK) cell activity in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) differs by human papillomavirus (HPV) status. A specific NK cell subset predicts better survival in HPV-positive HNSCC, while a different mechanism drives immune evasion in HPV-negative HNSCC.
