Abstract:
Acetabular retroversion (AR) has been found to be associated with the development of multiple symptomatic pathologies of the hip joint including femoroacetabular impingement syndrome, labral tears, chondral injuries, posterior instability, and the development of hip osteoarthritis. Many studies have showed good results with hip arthroscopy in patients with 2-dimensional imaging preoperatively utilized to diagnose AR. While plain radiographs can be helpful in preliminary evaluation for AR, its diagnosis can be more accurately made using 3-dimensional imaging. Surgeons should utilize 3-dimensional imaging quantitating femoral and acetabular version in addition to clinical exam when considering isolated HA for this potentially higher risk patient population.
