Compact polarization lidar system at a 1550 nm wavelength for aerosol anomaly detection
Abstract:
The study of atmospheric aerosols, which are defined as fine particles suspended in the atmosphere, using lidar techniques is well established. This work presents real-time measurements of aerosol hotspots, particularly water mist, sand, and Arizona test dust, using a portable polarization lidar system. The system, which consists mainly of commercial off-the-shelf components, has a spatial resolution of approximately 3 m, weighs less than 10 kg, and operates at a wavelength of 1550 nm. Due to its wavelength, the lidar has high potential for eye safety.
