Background:
Oral health knowledge and behaviors are crucial for preventing oral diseases; however, existing tools lack comprehensiveness and standardization.
Objective:
This research aimed to develop and validate the Oral Health Knowledge and Behavior Scale (OHKBS), a comprehensive tool to assess oral health awareness and practices.
Methods:
A 35-item scale was constructed through literature review, expert consultation, and pilot testing. Psychometric evaluation was conducted using data from 500 participants. Reliability was assessed using Cronbach's alpha and ICC, while validity was established through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses and criterion validity testing.
Results:
The OHKBS demonstrated excellent reliability (Cronbach's alpha = 0.92; ICC = 0.87) and a four-factor structure explaining 75% of the variance. Criterion validity showed a strong correlation (r = 0.81, P < 0.001) with an established oral health tool.
Conclusion:
The OHKBS is a reliable, valid, and comprehensive tool suitable for diverse research and public health applications.
