Postoperative Evaluation of Patient Comfort in Apicoectomy Cases in Mandibular Posteriors: A Comparative Study

Purpose:
This study aims to evaluate and compare postoperative comfort levels in patients undergoing apicoectomy in mandibular posteriors using two different surgical techniques.
Methods:
A total of 60 patients with persistent periapical pathology in mandibular posterior teeth were included and randomly divided into two groups. Group A underwent traditional apicoectomy with rotary burs, while Group B received ultrasonic-assisted apicoectomy. Parameters, such as postoperative pain, swelling, and functional discomfort, were assessed on days 1, 3, and 7 post-surgery.
Results:
Both techniques demonstrated significant improvement in comfort over the follow-up period. However, Group B reported lower pain scores and faster resolution of swelling. Functional discomfort was minimal in Group B by day 7 compared to Group A (P < 0.05).
Conclusions:
Ultrasonic-assisted apicoectomy significantly enhances postoperative comfort in patients undergoing apicoectomy in mandibular posteriors compared to traditional methods.
