Magnet Retained Provisional Acrylic Partial Dentures-A Clinical Report

Abstract:
Acrylic provisional partial dentures are the most commonly fabricated prostheses for the general population. The most common disadvantage of the prosthesis is the unesthetic display of the clasp and biomechanical failure. The clasp fabricated without an occlusal rest results in gingival stripping and leaves the abutment tooth periodontally compromised. The magnet retained acrylic provisional prosthesis overcomes all the shortcomings of the conventional clasp and offers better retention. This clinical report aims at evaluating the functional efficiency of using a magnet as an intracoronal retainer with a one-year follow-up.
