Abstract:
Perioperative management constitutes a cornerstone of colorectal surgery and is regarded as one of the major surgical advancements of the late 20th century. Driven by conceptual innovations, technological breakthroughs, and systemic restructuring, a multidimensional, full-cycle management model has been established. The developmental trajectory of this field reflects a historic transformation in the medical model-from empirical to evidence-based medicine, and from disease-focused treatment to patient-centered care. This article reviews the global and domestic transformations and innovations in this domain, with a particular emphasis on the pioneering contributions of Academician Li Jieshou's team. It systematically outlines the legacy and clinical practices regarding perioperative medical concepts, enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS), prehabilitation, nutritional therapy, and gut microbiota modulation, presenting a comprehensive landscape of perioperative management in colorectal surgery. The aim is to promote the continuous advancement of perioperative management in colorectal surgery toward greater precision, efficiency, and humanistic care, thereby providing a vital reference for standardized clinical implementation and high-quality disciplinary development.
