Abstract:
N-(3-Methylbut-2-en-1-yl)quinazolin-4(3H)-ones were designed as new building skeletons for the construction of C2-sulfonamidylated pyrrolo-quinazolinones through photocatalytic cascade sulfonamidation/cyclization with N-sulfonylaminopyridinium salts. Meanwhile, C3-sulfonamidylated piperidino-quinazolinones were constructed using N-(4-methylpent-3-en-1-yl)quinazolin-4(3H)-ones as substrates. The significant feature of this methodology lies in the direct installation of sulfonamidyl into the pyrrolo/piperidino core rather than into the side chain.

Oxidation of Phenols to Quinones
o-hydroxy phenols are oxidized to o-quinones and p-hydroxy phenols to p-quinones. Such redox reactions involve the transfer of two electrons and two protons. The reversible redox...
Electrophilic Addition to Alkynes: Halogenation
Halogenation is another class of electrophilic addition reactions where a halogen molecule gets added across a π bond. In alkynes, the presence of two π bonds allows for the addition of two equivalents of halogens (bromine or chlorine). The addition of the first halogen molecule forms a trans-dihaloalkene as the major product and the cis isomer as the minor product. Subsequent addition of the second equivalent yields the tetrahalide.
