Initial pediatric experience of preserving cardiac allografts in a 10°C cooler

Abstract:
Donor cardiac allograft preservation typically entails static cold storage with ice. The use of a 10 °C cooler for preservation has shown favorable results in adult cardiac transplants. We describe the initial pediatric experience of utilizing a 10°C cooler for cardiac allograft preservation in a single-center retrospective review. Details regarding recipient characteristics, intraoperative course, and postoperative outcomes were collected from the electronic medical record. At a median follow-up of 6 months, all patients were alive with a median ejection fraction of 62% (range 56%-71%) and with normal right ventricle function. This initial experience demonstrates promising early outcomes utilizing the 10°C cooler for cardiac allograft preservation in the pediatric setting.
