None:
As a functional nanomaterial derived from renewable biomass, lignin nanoparticles (LNPs) have emerged as an ideal bridge linking agricultural and forestry wastes to high-value-added advanced materials. This paper systematically reviews the primary preparation strategies, self-assembly mechanisms of LNPs, and their innovative application potential across multiple cutting-edge fields, thereby enabling nonspecialists to quickly grasp the state of this field. Additionally, we identify key technical bottlenecks currently constraining LNPs industrialization, including the difficulty in standardizing LNPs performance due to raw material heterogeneity, limited scalability and cost-effectiveness of preparation processes, insufficient long-term product stability, and, most critically, a significant gap between laboratory research and real-world industrial demands. Meanwhile, we map out the most viable development pathways to address these challenges. Thus, future development urgently calls for collaborative efforts from the academic and industrial sectors. By refining raw material fractionation, developing continuous-flow preparation processes, and designing products tailored to high-end applications, we can collectively drive the substantive transformation of LNPs from "biomass waste" to high-performance "advanced materials".
