Conception and implementation of a training concept for nursing professionals for conducting video consultations: an original contribution Abstract: Background: Children who are born prematurely or with disabilities require specialised follow-up care after discharge, which is inadequate, especially in rural areas. The WELCOME project offers parents direct communication with specialised nursing staff through video consultations and chat contacts. To prepare WELCOME staff for this task, a training concept was developed that focuses on professional qualifications and the expansion of digital literacy. Aim: Which skills are required to conduct video consultations as part of follow-up care for parents of premature or sick full-term infants with increased care needs? Methods: Based on a literature review of educational offerings in the field of telenursing, a three-stage survey was conducted to integrate the practice-oriented perspective on non-clinical care for families. The training concept was designed and implemented using the ADDIE model. Results: The blended learning training course on conduction video consultations includes 32 teaching units and was developed in collaboration with key professional groups in a participatory process. Discussion and Conclusions: Technical and communication training are essential to prepare nursing practitioners for conducting video consultations. Empathy, cultural sensitivity and continuous professional development are key requirements for ensuring family-centered digital follow-up care.
