Purpose:
This comparative study aimed to evaluate interchangeability of the Myopia Master, IOL Master 700, and Nidek ARK500 autorefractometer for axial length, keratometry, and autorefraction measurements among myopic children.
Methods:
This prospective, observational, single-blinded study included children aged 5 to 15 years, with myopia ≥-0.5D. The axial length and keratometry were measured using Myopia Master and IOL Master 700. Cycloplegic autorefraction with keratometry was measured using Myopia Master and NIDEK ARK500 autorefractor. The primary outcome was to assess the agreement of measurements between the devices.
Results:
A total of 35 participants with a mean age of 10.2 ± 2.8 years (57% male) were enrolled. The Myopia Master measured axial length 0.01 mm shorter and keratometry 0.087 D and 0.12 D flatter in the two meridians compared to the IOL Master 700. The spherical refractive error was 0.086 D more myopic than that from the NIDEK ARK500 autorefractometer, while cylindrical error showed no difference. All parameters demonstrated strong correlations (r: 0.96-0.99).
Conclusions:
The Myopia Master is interchangeable with the NIDEK ARK500 autorefractometer for refractive error assessment and with the IOL Master 700 for keratometry and axial length measurements in pediatric myopic subjects. This is supported by minimal mean bias and narrow 95% limits of agreement. Thus, it could serve as reliable tool for myopia management.
