Satisfaction of Biweekly Senofilcon A Toric Contact Lens Wearers Who Were Refit Into Weekly Serafilcon A Toric...

The purpose of this study was to determine whether satisfied wearers of biweekly contact lenses (CL) for astigmatism can be refitted with weekly CL for astigmatism and remain satisfied wearers.

Satisfied, asymptomatic senofilcon A CL wearers aged 18-40 years were enrolled. Visits 1 and 2 confirmed senofilcon A CL satisfaction and fit. After a week of washout, serafilcon A CLs were dispensed at visit 3, and participants were asked to wear them for 2 weeks. At visit 4, CLs were evaluated using the CLDEQ-8, visual analog scale (VAS), an investigator-designed questionnaire, and the Impact of Dry Eye on Everyday Life (IDEEL) QoL module.

Forty-seven participants (70.2% female) were enrolled. A total of 81% of the participants wearing serafilcon A CLs had asymptomatic CLDEQ-8 scores at visit 4. Serafilcon A CLs wearers had mean VAS scores of 72.1 ± 27.2 for end of day eye comfort, 63.6 ± 34.2 for eye dryness, and 79.6 ± 23.8 for clarity of vision. Serafilcon A CLs wearers had good mean daily activities (96.1 ± 5.3), feelings (97.8 ± 3.2), and work domain (95.7 ± 5.9) IDEEL questionnaire scores, and 65.8% of the participants indicated that they were satisfied with their CLs.

According to patient reported outcome results, most participants were satisfied with their CLs after switching from senofilcon A to serafilcon A CLs, suggesting that it is feasible to switch a satisfied biweekly CL wearer to a weekly CL brand when needed as a result of newer materials, a different replacement schedule, patient preference, costs, or other necessities.
