Summary

Slow maxillary expansion (SME) using the Leaf Expander (LE) and rapid maxillary expansion (RME) both effectively treat transverse maxillary deficiency. While overall expansion is similar, differences exist in how each method achieves it, guiding appliance choice.

  • High-quality RCTs with 3D protocols and longer follow-up are needed.
