This review presents recent progress and advances in cerium-based mixed-metallic organic frameworks (MMOFs), focusing on their synthesis, structural features, and diverse applications. The unique redox behavior of the Ce(III)/Ce(IV) couple, superior oxygen absorption potential, and strong coordination with carboxylate ligands make it a promising component for designing multifunctional materials. The integration of secondary metal centers into its metal-organic frameworks introduces synergistic effects that enhance electronic properties, structural robustness, and catalytic activity. In addition to pristine MMOFs, attention is given to derived materials such as metal oxides and hybrid composites obtained through thermal or chemical transformations, highlighting their preserved structure and extended functionality. The review also addresses current challenges, emerging synthetic strategies, and future directions for deploying Ce-based MMOFs in catalytic processes, energy storage and transformation, and environmental decontamination.
