Outcome of Cubitus Varus Deformity Treated by Modified French Osteotomy and Fixation with Reconstruction Plate

Cubitusvarus deformity is the most common delayed complication of paediatric supracondylar humerus fractures. To evaluate the outcome of cubitusvarus deformity treated by Modified French Osteotomy and fixation with reconstruction plate we have done this observational study. A total 22 patients with post-traumatic cubitusvarus deformity were included in this study. Out of 22 patients; left side was involved in 18 cases and the right side in four. The average age at the time of osteotomy was 14.41 years (range 10-18 years). The mean pre-operative varus angulation of the affected side was -25.14° ± 8.28 (range, -12° to - 45°). Significant improvement in carrying angle postoperatively with mean valgus 4.81°±5.48 (range, 3° to 12°). All the patients were having nearly normal range of motion of the affected elbow. Based on Bellmore et al. criteria, the study showed result in the form of excellent- 63.64%, Good- 27.27% and poor- 9.09%. Significant improvement in the carrying angle postoperatively with adequate preservation of elbow range of motion and minimal complications treated by Modified French Osteotomy and fixation with reconstruction plate.
