Background:
Cone-beam-based navigation as well as robot-assistance are being increasingly employed in spine surgeries to avoid implant misplacement.
Objectives:
Comparison of technique, precision, radiation dosage, resource needs, and spectrum of application of both methods.
Materials Und Methods:
Besides In addition to a literature search, learning curves of surgical time and radiation dosages were compared between the first 50 robotic cases and 100 cases each with cone-beam navigation or fluoroscopic assistance.
Results:
While robot assistance comes with highest precision and speed, cone-beam-navigation holds the largest spectrum of application. When implementing the robot, the current learning curve is flatter and longer.
Conclusions:
Both technical assistance systems provide a reduced complication rate via increased precision and safety. Acceptance of the high acquisition costs can lead to a reduction in radiation dosage and surgical procedure times.
