Choroidal Neovascularization as a Postpartum Complication of Gestational Hypertension: A Case Report

Purpose:
To report a case of choroidal neovascularization in a patient with gestational hypertension using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A).
Methods:
This is a case report.
Results:
A 32-year-old woman with gestational hypertension without pre-eclampsia presented with new choroidal neovascularization two months postpartum (visual acuity of 20/70). Subretinal hemorrhage resolved after injection of intravitreal bevacizumab, and regression of choroidal neovascularization was visualized by optical coherence tomography angiography. Treatment was repeated 7 months later for recurrence of hemorrhage, and she remained stable with visual acuity of 20/20 at 12-month follow-up.
Conclusion:
Practitioners should be aware that patients with gestational hypertension may develop delayed and visually significant choroidal neovascularization. Optical coherence tomography angiography serves as a valuable, noninvasive tool for diagnosis and follow-up in this population. Early recognition and prompt treatment can lead to favorable visual outcomes.
