Objective:
To examine rates and correlates of HPV vaccine uptake among university students, 18-45 years old.
Methods:
HPV vaccination data were abstracted in February 2024 for 67,966 students who were active in the immunization database at the researchers' institution. Data included receipt of HPV vaccination, age, gender, enrolled full-time vs. part-time, and international vs. domestic status.
Results:
Rates of HPV vaccination are 51% for receiving at least 1 dose and 36% for receiving 2 or more doses. There was a decrease in receiving at least 1 dose from 59% in students ≤26 years to 30% in students 27-34 years and 9% in students ≥35 years. Across all age groups, higher odds of HPV vaccine uptake were found among females versus males, full-time versus part-time, and domestic versus international students.
Conclusions:
Population-based health promotion efforts are needed to target lower HPV uptake among male, older, part-time, and international students.HighlightsHPV vaccination rates remain much lower than the Healthy People 2030 goals of 80% for females and males.HPV vaccination rates are lower among older university studentsFemale students had higher HPV vaccine uptake than males,HPV vaccination rates are higher among full-time than part-time and domestic than international students.
