Advancements in Devices for the Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Comprehensive Overview
1Consulting Radiology of Michigan, PLLC, Northville, Michigan.
Abstract:
Acute ischemic stroke is a critical medical emergency that requires prompt restoration of cerebral blood flow. This comprehensive review discusses the latest technological advances in endovascular stroke therapy, including innovations in vascular access sheaths, balloon guide catheters, aspiration catheters, and stent retrievers. Emphasis is placed on the management of tandem occlusions using carotid artery stenting, the incorporation of dual-layer stents and integrated stent systems, and the evolving role of neuroimaging and artificial intelligence in guiding therapy. With emerging evidence and continuous device evolution, the scope of endovascular treatment is expanding to include broader patient populations and more complex stroke presentations.
