Background:
A pilot study of a synchronous virtual ultrasound imaging module in physiotherapy education found positive effects on knowledge and skill acquisition.
Commentary:
Although positive effects were found, more research is needed to support the validity and reliability of assessing students' competency. A control group design is needed to make causal conclusions. Additionally, retention of competency is needed to make conclusions regarding competency retention. It may be useful to incorporate competency models.
Conclusion:
Overall, although useful preliminary findings were found, more research is needed to support the effectiveness of virtual ultrasound education.
