During this global upsurge of trauma-informed care implementation in health care systems, the relationship between secondary traumatic stress and effective delivery and sustainability of the practice should be emphasized. In this article, the authors propose flipping the script, that is, creating an organizational climate that is hallmarked by trauma responsive development and protection practices for the professional workforce first as the foundation for a sustainable trauma-informed care service delivery system. To guide this process, a bifocal, evidence-based approach to creating a trauma-informed environment to address occupational stressors like secondary traumatic stress is offered.
