Abstract:
Packaging ensures safety and quality of milk and the materials used for milk packaging is evolving continuously. The quality analysis of milk in real time is important to reduce milk spoilage, restrict milk borne illness and thus improve consumers safety. To assure the milk quality and safety intelligent packaging can be a good choice as it used various sensors and indicator which can trace or monitor the real time analysis of milk without any hassle and complicated testing method. Recently, there are different types of sensors like halochromic, gas, enzyme, optical, electrical that have been employed to study milk freshness in real time without opening the packaging. This review discusses the principles of intelligent packaging sensors, which followed by the recent advances in milk freshness indicators. The applications of various intelligent packaging material for milk freshness/spoilage were discussed in details. Finally, the future perspective of intelligent packaging is debated.
