Abstract:
Fascial plane blocks are regional anesthetic techniques that are gaining popularity due to their relatively simple method, aided by ultrasound guidance, which enhances accuracy and reduces the complications. These blocks offer effective analgesia by acting on nociceptors and nerves within fascial planes. Particularly valuable in children who are at higher risk of opioid related side effects, these blocks can improve postoperative comfort, co-operation, and recovery following surgery. Unlike traditional peripheral nerve blocks, direct nerve identification is not required, making them safer and more accessible. Although difficult to attain complete surgical anesthesia, they have become a reliable tool for perioperative analgesia. This narrative review aims to explore the utility of fascial plane blocks, especially those utilised for chest and abdominal surgeries in the pediatric population.
